Furthering My Education – UoP?
Question by jlarsen4: Furthering my education – UoP?
I’m a licensed substance abuse counselor interested in furthering my education in the counseling field. I will soon complete a bachelors of psychology degree. I have a growing young family and a mortgage – making moving or commuting to a new school a very difficult and costly proposition for a number of reasons. I have been considering enrollment into the mental health counseling program at the University of Phoenix. I’m interested in opinions, etc. but I am most interested in feedback from those who have enrolled in this particular program. Any help is appreciated.

I may know nothing of your field or the program you are looking to enroll in but once you mentioned UofPhx, I automatically saw this as a bad decision. Do any employers really take a degree from that University seriously? I am from Phoenix and know many people that work for the organization and honestly, from the inside, their goal doesn’t seem to be focused on educating individuals in a higher learning environment….. but rather to EXPAND and make a TON of money! Besides, I have always had a problem with online classes and don’t feel that they are as educationally beneficial as a good old classroom environment. Also, I was shocked at the cost of tuition at UofPhx.

Bless you for helping those with addiction. Please, however, do NOT enroll in U of P which is one of those online, for-profit schools (though may be ‘accredited’ and may have ‘brick and mortar’ buildings) in addition to other online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, ashworth, devry, ITT tech, strayer, everest, kaplan, aiu, capella, ashwood, walden, high tech, brown mackie, colorado tech, regis, ashford, grand canyon, remington and others as they are merely out to ‘make a profit’ (and course credits may NOT transfer to other schools). These consumer sites have many negative posts about U of P and other online, for-profit schools, and please heed the students’ warnings:
