Residential Treatment Facility Information… Please!?

Question by Arielle+Aubrey: Residential treatment facility information… please!?
Um. ok. so i’ve been self-injuring for a year now. In January, I was in the mental floor of a hospital for a week and that didn’t seem to help. I know that I need help. I see a counsler 1 a week. But the cutting has become more than a habit. It’s become a way of thinking. I can’t change my thought process. I’ve near attempted suicide twice this week… Help. Do I need residential? What is it like? How long will it last? Will it work? How do I tell my mom I need to go?

Would You Be Willing to Use Internet-Based Software for Mental Health Treatment if Referred by a Counselor?

Question by Mark R: Would you be willing to use internet-based software for mental health treatment if referred by a counselor?
Multimedia software can be developed to provide educational information, worksheets, psychological exercises, and other “homework” assignments. Would you be willing to use it if it was recommended by a counselor? Please rate your answer from 1 (definately not) to 10 (definately, yes). Please explain your answer.

I’d say 10, as long as the use of this software was in addition to traditional counseling and not meant to be a replacement. But if it were thoroughly approved by my counselor, I think it would be a fantastic idea. Structured “homework” could lead to deeper insights into whatever problem you may be working on. Therapists often ask patients to keep a journal which some find difficult to do because it seems overwhelming. But if daily exercises/worksheets etc. helped focus the person on one or two specific areas of thought, patients might not seem so overwhelmed and accomplish more.

Is There Any Available Drug Abuse Treatment in St. Paul, Minnesota?

Question by josh: Is there any available drug abuse treatment in St. Paul, Minnesota?
I wonder if there is any available drug abuse treatment for cocaine. I now live in New York but I decided that if I really want to get treated, I want it to be in my hometown which is St. Paul, Minnesota. I’ve been battling this addiction for quite some time now and I guess I just got tired of it so now I want to start all over.

It depends on how far in school you want to go and where you live. I live in Missouri, and I have my Masters Degree in Counseling and undergrad in Social Work. I started out as a caseworker with the critically mentally ill. I later went into substance abuse counseling for 16 yrs. and then went into co occurring disorders. For the past 8 yrs almost I have been a parole officer with a specialized case of women that are co occurring disorder. If you would like to email me for more info feel free Also salary depends on private sector or state. That also has a lot to do with job security. God Bless Reggie

Strange Therapist?

Question by Cathy S: Strange therapist?
Please I need some advice. I’ve been going to a therapist who is basically not nice. When I’ve tried to stop going I’m always given a hard time. Now, I’m going to find a new therapist but I’m nervous. The last one would ask me definitions of unusual words and smirk if I couldn’t come up with the right answer, mock me, and more I will not go into… I’d leave crying. I have average intelligence, I’m not a genius, what kind of pleasure would someone who is supposed to help you get from mocking a person? How do you check out a therapist to be sure they do not have a mean streak? When I go to the new person should I mention the last therapist had a mean streak or just say I needed a change. I’m really afraid to get help now and I have depression.
