Would You Say Something to Co-Workers That Continually Come to Work Sick When They Have Sick Time to Use?

Question by Flys with the Eagle: Would you say something to co-workers that continually come to work sick when they have sick time to use?
I work with two ladies that always come to work sick (colds, sneezing, coughing, sometimes with fevers) but they will a sick day for a “mental health” day. It bugs me because I have young children that I potentially could take the germs home to and if they get I WILL have to stay home. I also have an elderly father in Hospice care and if I get even a mild cold I can not visit him!

Have you ever dealt with this situation and how did you handle it?

I did say something once. I’m pregnant and really don’t want to get sick, but this girl came into our office with strep throat! She’d just been to the dr. that morning and was still contagious. I was like, you really should go home so we don’t all get sick. You get paid for it anyway, geez! I mean, I would be totally sympathetic to someone who lost wages or got penalized for staying home sick, but not if you have sick time.

I think some people are self concious about missing work, even when their employer allows it, some employer’s do actually frown if your a key worker, but this is totally unfair to the rest of the employees, and I think employees should have a right to complain to their employer over this.
by the way, if you have children in school, you probably deal with this anyways…you cant win. lol
