What Are Some Practical Books About Working as a Therapist?

Question by followmetofenway: What are some practical books about working as a therapist?
Hi! I’ve been thinking very seriously about going back to school to become a therapist. A friend of mine who’s in the field recommended Kottler’s On Being a Therapist, and I LOVED it. Are there any other books that you can recommend that are like this? I’m not looking for technical textbooks at this point. I’m looking for something about working in the field in a clinical setting, suitable for the layman or maybe the undergraduate student.

Thanks a bunch!

Try Frieda Fromm-Reichmann’s “Principles of Intensive Psychotherapy.” Although not many people start from this theory now, it is a great book about how to relate to your clients and how to think about what you are doing. Sheldon Kopp’s “If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him” is the best book I have ever read about being a therapist. David Viscott’s book, “The Making of a Psychiatrist,” is also good.
