I don’t know if it’s the “only” one, but St John’s Military School in Salina is the one that came to my mind. Growing up in Kansas, I remember it was where parents sent sons they had given up on in a last ditch effort to “straighten them out”. I’m sure the school has a lot of redeeming qualities, but its students in my days were often “troubled boys”. One of my earliest childhood aquaintances was definitely “transformed” by his experience there. I didn’t get the chance to see him as an adult to know if it was positive, but they broke his independent spirit and brought “discipline”. He certainly had discipline problems going in, but he also had an exuberant and creative spirit that was quashed. On the other side, he exhibited much more of a responsible nature as a result. So, draw your own conclusions of the value of the institution. I know my answer is more than you asked for.
