Children whose mothers abused substances while in the womb are at a much higher risk for developing ADHD, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, psychiatric problems, mental retardation, and drug abuse problems of their own. If the mother drinks alcohol, the infant could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome.

As for the effects of seeing the parents do drugs and not being exposed to drugs directly, I don’t really know. I’m sure the modeling effects of that could increase the likelihood of the childen experiementing with drugs themselves.
