What Would You Do if You Were Verbally Abused at Your Job by a Troubled Child? ?
Question by Confused but hopeful: What would you do if you were verbally abused at your job by a troubled child? ?
I work at a group home for troubled children. A client has been verbally abusing me for no reason… and as a staff I can not do much about it. I really cant take it anymore and it has brought me to anger and depression. I am a very nice person, but I am so damn tired of being run all over by an evil ass brat who takes out her anger on me because her family does not want her. The things she says about me are harsh also….. which is so rude because I am so nice to her. What should I do?

I know what you mean. I’ve been cussed out by kids, whose parents don’t seem to care.
There is nothing you can do, unfortunately.
This country will only get more ghetto as the days go by.
I’m leaving this country for “lighter” pastures.
I’m not too familiar with social work, but maybe you could tell the parents that the kid is “outta here” if he doesn’t shape up.
(Those who thumbs-down me are similarly distraught and hate reading the truth about it all because it hinders their “ignorance is bliss” way of coping.)

You could use the “I don’t have to help you” trick if she wants something from you. Have you told her that her actions are inappropriate? I can see as being on the staff that your options are limited so I can only suggest that you either ignore it or find another job. Also you could try meditation as this seems to calm me when I’m stressed. You could also use some of your vacation time so you can refresh yourself and then when you come back you’ll be a new person. I can also tell you that you are experiencing a temporary situation which means this will not last forever.
I used to work for a telecommunications company where I was verbally abused on a daily basis, but the thing is that I didn’t think about it when I got home. I did leave that job for other reasons but my point is that you cannot take work home with you.
You seem like a mature responsible person so really who cares about a little brat who’s taking her emotions out on you. The reason she does this is because you are an easy target. The same goes for bullies they love easy targets. So if you ignore her she may very well quit doing what shes doing.
