Alcoholic Intervention Issue?
Question by Toothie: Alcoholic intervention Issue?
I know someone that recentlly told me she is an alcoholic. She is 18 and doesnt know why she does it but is ready for help and feels really low and bad about it. What are some good interventions I can help with without her going to rehab center? Her counselor tells her she is not that bad and gives her hope. She is seeking help. Please give me ideas so I can help her and be there to get her through this tough time of stopping the drinking. Im not sure what she was drinking i think it was beer mostly.

You have to find out the basis details first . How much she is drinking each day/week , what she is drinking and most importantly , even though she says she doesn’t know why , you need to find out what is going on in her life that would maybe impact drinking as a comfort for her . Then , you need to contact an AA intervention program or something along those lines to start the assistance process . Even though it looks really heroic to help her all by yourself , people have went to school to help others who suffer with these sorts of problems . She wants help though , the first step to discovering a solution to a major problem is to admit it to someone , and she has taken that first step . Good Luck .

The most successful statistics are from people that have done an in/outpatient rehab. program. Just stopping drinking on your own usually only works for a short time; your friend needs a support group.
