How Is Alcoholism Treated When an Alcoholic Seeks Treatment / Rehab?

Question by Alcoholic Researcher: How is alcoholism treated when an alcoholic seeks treatment / rehab?

Best answer:

Answer by Auroch
Often the alcoholic just quits the booze – and he can call AA and get a sponsor to help him get involved in AA. It really helps. But plenty of alcoholics just quit and don’t go to AA.

But if an alcoholic has drunk for many years, he’s going to be real sick when he quits the booze. In this case he might have to go to the hospital to dry out. He might need life support. Alcohol is one amazingly dangerous drug – and it kills more people than ALL of the illegal drugs combined.
