Can Intervention Really Help an Addict?

Question by charity 3xb: Can intervention really help an addict?
I have a friend who has been really dependent upon alcohol for some months now. I want her to get better, but she hasn’t subjected herself to treatment yet. I was wondering if doing an intervention will help. What do you think?

I think it’s a great idea to do an intervention. Gather your friend’s close friends and family members and talk to him. You can also seek the help of an intervention specialist so that you would have an expert facilitating the intervention. Intervention makes the addict realize what his intake of drugs or alcohol is doing to him. Intervention is usually aimed to convince a person to get himself treated for his addiction. I think it’s worth a try to do this for your friend.

Just tell her that she needs to clean up, or you aren’t going to be her friend anymore. Eventually it will bring you down too. It’s a disease. My father died from it at the age of 35 and if my familiy was strong enough to do an intervention then maybe he would be alive today.
