Can Not Taking Your Prozac Cause Irrational Thoughts and Behavior?

Question by Erin L: Can not taking your prozac cause irrational thoughts and behavior?
Not neciscarilly suicidal thoughts or behavior but destructive behavior none the less. Like self sabotaging. Is it possible that this could be from not taking the prozac as directed. Not taking it enough.

YES-
antidepressants alter levels of chemicals that are naturally produced by the brain. They should never be skipped or stopped abruptly, because you develop a type of “dependency” on them. If these levels are not maintained at a constant level by the medication, there are many detrimental effects that will happen from the highs and lows that will result. If someone you know is thinking of stopping the use of an antidepressant, it should only be done under the close supervision of a physician.
If you skip doses, or do not wean off of the drug over time-you will feel more depressed, irrational, and destructive than before you started it-in other words.
