Can You Do “Art Therapy” on Your Own or Do You Have to Have a Professional Do It?
Question by Howdy: Can you do “art therapy” on your own or do you have to have a professional do it?
I’ ve been going through a tough time and have focused on my art work because I consider it therapeutic. I told someone this and he said that it’s NOT “art therapy” because if it was art therapy, I’d be doing the art with a mental health professional. Is this true? So is what I do not art therapy?

I disagree; it acts as occupational therapy, keeping activity out of less desirable areas of the brain, and anyone (even me, with minimal talent) can do abstract, primitive, or impressionist art.

My Health book has a chapter on this, and I read about it. A person majoring in art, and I think Psychology, helps with this. So I’m pretty sure it’s not. It’s therapeutic though.
