What Would Be a Good Treatment for People With Dual Diagnosis?
Question by abbigail f: What would be a good treatment for people with dual diagnosis?
I’ve read that people with dual diagnosis must not just be treated for one of their illnesses, but rather for both. What is this treatment and how does it work?

The treatment is called effective integrated treatment. This treatment does not only involve treating mental illness, or substance abuse disorder. It involves treating both disorders simultaneously. The caregiver must be adept at handling people with co-occurring disorders, otherwise, treating only one might lead the other illness to come back. The treatment must involve trust between the patient and the caregiver. Assertive outreach, motivational interventions, counseling, and social support must also be present to prevent the patient from relapsing. This kind of treatment takes months, or even years to complete. This is because constant attention is needed to be given to the patient so as to prevent relapse.

A chemical dependency is such a strong dependency on a substance that it becomes necessary to have this substance just to function properly. The need of a substance is developed from abusing it. The drug rarely becomes necessary to one’s survival, but some drug withdrawal processes can indeed be fatal.

So its never hereditary.
Answer by nora22000
I don’t know.
However, it can be passed on through value systems and habit, much as overweight condition is.
You have seen a tubby mommy, tubby hubby, and super tubby baby many times; none of which are genetically prone to overweight but all of whom eat huge amounts of fattening foods and remain sedentary almost all the time.
