Liver Blood Tests Coming Back Abnormal? Alcohol Abuse?

Question by Rumbly: Liver blood tests coming back abnormal? Alcohol abuse?
I have had several AST, ALT and GGT blood tests come back elevated. I know these can point to liver disease from alcohol abuse. How much do you have to drink to damage your liver?

I drink regularly but not heavily and never expected to have liver damage because of it? I have 3-5 drinks per week on average. Is that alot?

Best answer:

Answer by lab rat
Alcohol can cause you to have abnormal liver tests, but it’s not the only reason. Other common reasons are obesity, diabetes, a high level of lipids (fats) in the blood), infection (e.g. hepatitis). It can also be an effect of many medications.

Why Do People Take Drugs?

Question by : Why do people take drugs?

Best answer:

Answer by Cheryl
People who use drugs, including alcohol, do so because they like what the drugs do to their brains. All drugs of abuse, from alcohol to nicotine to heroin, cause a series of temporary changes in the brain that produce the “high.”

One of these changes is the rise in available levels of certain neurotransmitters associated with feelings of pleasure. Key among these is dopamine, a naturally occurring neurotransmitter that some scientists now think is implicated in most of the basic human experiences of pleasure.

The pleasure of a kiss, a bowl of favorite ice cream, and a compliment may all be related to a rise in dopamine levels in the normal person’s brain. Drugs of abuse also boost dopamine levels. When a person takes a hit of crack cocaine — or a drag on a cigarette — the drugs cause a spike in dopamine levels in the brain, and a rush of euphoria, or pleasure. While it’s not the only chemical involved in drug abuse, experts have come to believe that dopamine is the crucial one.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: DO LECTURES and ASSEMBLIES HELP STOP DRUG and ALCOHOL ABUSE?

Question by : HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: DO LECTURES AND ASSEMBLIES HELP STOP DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE?
In high school does hearing horror stories and lectures on what alcohol and drugs do to you make an impact on you as a person, or does it fly right over your head?

What do you think are ways to actually make even a slight impact on a teen with this topic?

Best answer:

Answer by Nikki
Nothing will make an impact on teen until something happens to make them want to stop

Answer by dan
They always made me think about drugs when I wouldn’t otherwise, and how awesome they must be for people to take such risks to get and take them.

Honestly, just stop putting so much focus on them. Most places the same drugs are legal, hardly anybody takes them.
