My Father Is a Diabetic Alcoholic?

Question by TrishaB<3: My father is a diabetic alcoholic?
I don’t know what to do. I am a teenager and I don’t know what to do. He is diabetic and it is terrible for his health but he does it anyway. He promises he will stop and then he goes and drinks any way and when I remind him that he promised me he says ‘sorry’ and acts so sad like someone has done something to him and refuses to look at me. It is incredibly frustrating as he can take control of it but he chooses not to. My mother sees this problem and whines about it but she doesn’t seem to be doing anything to stop it and she herself is starting to drink. If she keeps getting drunk she will not be able to make sure my dad doesn’t suffocate at night in bed or have a heart attack. If he gets too drunk he will not be able to administer insulin to himself properly when his blood sugar rockets or plummets. He will refuse treatment for his addiction because he keeps denying it and he believes it is shameful to seek treatment because people will know. He gets so angry at me just at the thought that I may tell people about his drinking. I don’t know what to do. No one listens to me, no one seems to care.
I just want to go to college and be a normal kid without worrying that I will lose him every day.

Dear, please do not feel worry. You should do whatever to persude hime to quit drinking. It is really bad to the control of blood sugar. If blood sugar level is not controlled, it will lead to a myriad of complications, eye disease, kidney disease, heart disease, etc.
Hope I can help. I work in a hospital and glad to give you any useful information. If you have other questions, you can email to [email protected] . I will do my best to help you walk out of this difficult situation.

My Father Was an Alcoholic. Should I Seek Counseling?

Question by Alex: My father was an alcoholic. Should I seek counseling?
My father was an alcoholic but to be honest I’m not sure if I was affected me that much by it. He had a hard time drinking in moderation probably when I was in middle school and high school and maybe when I was in college (I commuted so if he had a hard time drinking in moderation during that time then I was still living at home when it happened). However I think my dad was pretty good at covering up his habit or perhaps I was just naive. In any case for much of my life I felt like my family was pretty normal and that there was nothing wrong. There were a couple of arguments between my mother and father I remember but he never hit me or anything like that. If anything he was verbally abusive and yelled at me, which perhaps was why I had (have?) such a low self esteem. Now I think he falls under the category of a dry drunk but I’m not sure because it’s only been recently that I heard the term and I didn’t have time to look into the symptoms that much but basically he has a short temper and I always feel like I’m walking on eggshells whenever I’m around him so that he doesn’t have a tantrum. I also avoid situations when we’re alone (in a car or a trip or something). I’m not close to my dad or any member of my family (mom, dad, sister). I don’t know how many of these symptoms are normal and how many are strange. I was also depressed growing up and have bouts of depression now and then. Again, I don’t know if that has anything to do with my father’s habit or not. I might have been depressed regardless of whether he was an alcoholic or not.
