How Do You Obtain a High School Diploma via a “Homebound Program”?

Question by Charlie: How do you obtain a high school diploma via a “homebound program”?
A homebound program, if i’m not mistaken, is a program established by the parent via letter of intent to the superintendent of the school district. If “homebound program,” is not the correct term please correct me in your response.
I’ve read that I can obtain it via maintaining a portfolio and taking the SAT (I&II) ?
Please explain the process more clearly if possible, and any other information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Please have experience or first-hand knowledge of the subject in question, if deciding to answer.
thanks!

Hi Charlie,
Actually in the US homebound is when a public schooled student receives instruction from a public school teacher in their own home due to illness or other necessity.
You are describing homeschooling.
The homeschooling parent determines when they have met the graduation requirements of their homeschool and issue a diploma in the same way the public and private schools determine who receives their diploma. In fact, the diploma is just a pretty piece of paper to hang on the wall, put in a safe deposit box, or stuff in a file folder, and probably rarely looked at once graduation is finished. Colleges are more interested in your high school transcripts and ACT/SAT scores than that diploma. All the diploma does is verify that you completed a course of study. It does not say anything about proficiency. Two students, graduating from the same high school, one with a 1.0 the other the class Valedictorian both have an identical diploma. What separates the two graduates are their transcripts that indicate the course work completed and their GPAs.
If you still want that cute certificate to frame (and I definitely want that for my children) and hang on the wall, once you complete your course of study parents can purchase a nice engraved diploma complete with padded cover: http://www.homeschooldiploma.com/ or even make one of their own:

Parents must maintain accurate records of your work. You will need a transcript to get into college as well as Good SAT/ACT Scores. You can learn to create a transcript and obtain templates to create your transcript here: http://www.hslda.org/highschool/academics.asp#transcripts
Many colleges, including the Ivy Leagues, actively recruit homeschoolers.
Best wishes.
