Being students, we are looking for a cheap 1 or 2 nights stay at a military boot camp, or something of that style, that includes fitness sessions (assault course) and team building exercises if possible. Any suggestions?

Do you recognize how shallow, immature this sounds? No wonder university rugby is abhorrent to the administrations of most universities – I assume we’re talking bout the States, here, right?

“Boot camp” has a purpose, but it’s definitely not catering (cheaply) to a bunch of adolescents. It’s job is to begin the preparation of men and women to to protect and defend their country. This is life-or-death stuff, not a boys’ game. How about some respect? If you think you would benefit from boot camp, and perhaps you would, all you have to do is withdraw from Uni and go enlist. They’ll be pleased to consider you. And then you won’t have to worry about the cost at all. In fact, they wil pay you, but not much.

You can probably find some off-the-grid outfit that would do this for you (there are proprietary “hoods-in-the-woods” companies), but you might want to consider the damage this approach did to the Springboks when one of their coaches lost his grip and tried din in RSA a few years ago. It was an enormous scandal that cost the coaches their jobs and led to years of wrangling; a set-back to the national programme.

If you enrolled in such a program as a university entity but did not book it through University sources, I can promise you that, at least in USA, your club would be suspended, and the officers responsible probably facing individual discipline. What do you think the University’s ability insurance would make of this.

Surely your coaches can develop training programs that are adequate to your actual needs (versus fantasies).
