Question by curiouschik: Are there government programs to receive free or affordable counseling?
I live in Riverside CA and I need to find an affordable, spanish speaking counselor for my mother. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

county hospital has programs for people with no insurance.

social services, just call and ask them
your local mental health center has resources
ask your local hospital, hospice centers, etc

Question by Sue: What is the best health insurance for those who need to go through substance abuse programs.?
Husband got two DUI’s and now the state of CT is making him do treatment before he can get license back. We are in California now, and I am looking for advice from someone who has EXPERIENCE with this. What is your suggestion for a health ins. plan to cover the costs of a substance abuse program, that includes counseling and evaluations…not detox.. Thanks so much!!

It’s possible that it could be flagged in the application. Most applications ask if you are currently pending treatment. His answer would be yes. If you say yes, they MIGHT exclude it. Question by d_q_420: How Come So Many Doctors Are SO Oblivious to Borderline Perosnality Disorder?
I suffer from that as well other disorders I’d rather not discuss @ the risk of being ridiculed. I have no job so no health insurance and the “Free Services” in Houston suck ass. Does anyone else have trouble finding therapists or shrinks that know that heck Borderline is? I have also taken all meds (almost ) under the sun.

Personality disorders are difficult to diagnose and treat. Many symptoms of a personality disorder may fit more closely into an Axis I diagnosis. We are learning more about certain personality disorders, but borderline is a very difficult one to pin down and often you have to go through a series of “ruling out” other possibilities. I also believe therapist are reluctant to diagnose it because there is little that can be done to treat it other than to get the person involved in a social support group, talk therapy and possible medication for SYMPTOMS (not to cure the situation).

Question by George Lass: How do you identify a legitimate life coach as opposed to an unqualified quack?
I need to set up an appointment to talk to somebody about practical dating and social skills advice. I want somebody licensed and experienced, ideally who will take psychological health insurance, but I don’t know the first thing about finding a good one and not just somebody who will take my money. How do you do it?

Find someone who generally wants to help people not someone that just wants money. Just look at their actions and you will know.

Thew whole thing’s a really long story but I’ll try to make it as short as I can. (Oh by the way I am 15 years old.)

My mom has always been an alcoholic and a not very fit parent for as long as I can remember. So my grandparents have been fighting for custody of me for as long as I can remember also. They ended up getting temporary custody of me around the time when I was 4 years old until I was about 8 years old.

So back to my mom.. Like I said she’s been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember. There are lots of things that have happened. She’s been arrested for it many times. Once was because of me actually because I work up the nerve to tell my grandma to call the police when she was hitting me and yelling at me and just hurting me in many ways.
