A psychiatrist is considerd a medical doctor because they are able to perscribe medication.
Psychologist can not perscribe medication (anti-depressants, hormonal pills, and such)
Try to remember going into either of these fields, does NOT mean that you sit in a room with a couch and ask how do you feel? You will spend much schooling and work time learning and experimenting with the brain, its nerves and hormones. Also, mentally ill also means mental retardation. Be prerpared for that to. A lot of people dont expect this when they go into the field and thats why so many people change careers from this to something other.
Im in school for a psychologist, mostly because i dont feel comfortable giving anti depressants and hormonal medicine for sick people.
