What Tests Are Available for Schizoaffective Bipolar I Disorder?

Question by fantasy209: What tests are available for Schizoaffective bipolar I disorder?
How do psychiatrists know that a person has Schizoaffective bipolar type I disorder for sure? Is there any evidence or proof?

I have it but all is based on my symptoms such as suicidal ideations, homicidal, irritability, racing thoughts, obsessions, sleep problems. How Can psychiatrists tell that I’m mentally ill even though they didn’t draw blood or do MRI scans?

Nobody knows for sure. Science hasn’t come up with anything concrete yet. There are some brain scans that can tell them a bit, but nothing decisive. The evidence is in your behaviour. That’s why it’s called “behavioral health”, as well as “mental health”. Same basic thing. The other helpful diagnostic factor is how you react to certain medications. If you’re bipolar and only on an anti-depressant, you’ll most likely go manic, for instance. I know it sucks to not have any hard evidence, but they’re coming up with new ideas all the time (albeit, very slowly because we’re apparantly not all that important to the scientific community).
