What to Pack for Residential Treatment?

Question by Leah F: What to pack for residential treatment?
*PLEASE READ THIS SO I GET HELPFUL ANSWERS*

Okay so I’m going to a residential treatment for behavior and mental health, I’ve been their before but can’t remember what I brought. I’m going to be there for 3-6 months. So can someone make me a small list? I just need an idea of what to bring. I can’t have glass, radios, computers, ect. but I can have like books, sketchbooks, pencils, cd players WITHOUT radio, ect. So feel free to make a miscellaneous list too. :) Thank you!

At a residential treatment center, you can bring your own body wash, shampoo etc… BUT you cannot bring any with alcohol in the first 3 ingredients. They will confiscate it because those products are banned. But they will provide it for you. Also, some provide electric razors that you can use once a week… Of course, this may vary center to center. But I guess you probably know that sense you’ve been there before…
But you’ll definitely need a stress reliever, lol, because their will be a lot of people there to piss you off, lol.
You are going to need to bring things that you would not mind being stolen, ruined, etc. I know you probably protect your stuff, but you know how things go… things just happen out of our control sometimes.
If you are an adolesent, make sure that you have the people closest to you on your calling list, or they won’t let you contact them. Don’t bring anything incriminating, etc. or they will tell you that you have some issues that you don’t have… you know how they like to “diagnose” you with things all the time… valid or not.
What is allowed on the unit various according to what age group you are in… For instance, adolescents are much more restricted than adults.
Medications/prescriptions, writing pads without metal, clothing/shoes without strings, undergarments without metal (if you’re a female), books, hobbies that can’t be used as a weapon, cd’s (in case they allow you to use radio/cd player in living area (though they are not allowed in the rooms)…. They will likely give you a strip search and drug test upon entry into the center…. Bring anything you like, mostly, because whatever you can’t have, they will keep in your contraband until you leave, and they may even let you use somethings under supervision of a staff member.
Clothes for exercise… You mostly need to bring what you would use, obviously something you or someone else can’t hurt themselves/someone else with. *They are weird about that.*
I am pretty experienced in this area, so if you have any more questions email me or IM me.
