Can Anyone Give Me Advice on Having an Intervention and Sending a Loved One to Drug Rehab?

Question by Monika: Can anyone give me advice on having an intervention and sending a loved one to drug rehab?
My mom is addicted to prescription drugs. I’ve always known about this problem, but it just recently hit an all time high. She can’t stand up straight 95% of the time. It’s really really sad. I want to have an intervention with family and close friends so we can tell her she has a huge problem and hopefully convince her to go to rehab. By the way, this is the last straw. We’ve tried to talk to her and send her to medical doctors.—They just prescribe her more drugs! I’m very worried that she won’t wake up one day or she’ll get in a car accident on her 40 minute commute to and from work. Does anyone have any insight from a similar situation?
Thank you so much for your insight and support. It’s a very very difficult situation to deal with.

this is a really hard thing and my prayers are with you and your mom..
the best thing is to just do it. tell your mom that you love her and you think this is whats best

then tell her how it’s hurting you to see her suffer

the best thing to do before an intervention is to have a rehab facility ready (be sure to do the research) for your mother and a way for her to get there call them ahead of time and tell them your planning on checking your mom in (even if you don’t know if it will go well) so that they will be ready for her

but remember that it’s a work in progress and if she decides to go to rehab just be as supportive as you can and if their are setback dont get impatient just let her go back to rehab

my grandmother is a recovering alcoholic and has been to rehab three different times

i really hope everything goes well for you

Getting friends and family members in on the plan is the best way to go…i think your idea has a great start.

My aunt has been battling drug addiction for as long as I can remember and no one will do a thing about it……her addiction messed up her childrens life and now that they are adults they do not want anything to do with her…..she is almost 50 years old but looks 80….she is almost dead but no one will get her the help she needs, they have tried and now they do not care a thing about her, I FEEL FOR THEM……..i know it sounds like they are selfish but they had to she would not get help, didn’t want help, said she would keep doing them after she got out of rehab.

I am glad that you still have hope for your mom, you must love her a lot, she is lucky. My prayers are with the family because her disease she shares with those who are closest and see what she does to her self………AND i blame doctors. YES doctors who know that these people are addicted but still perscribe these drugs so to get a profit and a small one at that. shame on them.

anyway i do hope you can do something for her.
